Break-ups are nothing new when it comes to inspiration for songwriters, but it's definitely rare when the person who breaks a songwriter's heart also provides the tools for creating an entire record. That’s what happened to Los Angeles songwriter Fitz, who received a phone call from his ex (who he calls “the heartbreaker”) one day informing him of a church organ that her neighbor needed to get rid of ASAP. That was the start of Fitz and the Tantrums. That night Fitz used that organ to write “Breakin’ the Chains of Love”, the first song from Songs For A Break-up: Volume 1, their debut 5-song EP. Via Rock USA If you are in Los Angeles you definitely should head down and check them out performing Nov sixth at the Echo in silverlake. Also, you never know Metrogum might just be there to capture the Fitz in all his Tantruming glory. We'll let you know! What if you are not in Los Angeles you ask? Well then you are in luck my friends because Fitz & The Tantrums have made a few of their songs available for free to download! Click here for details and free music! ![]() |

Metrogum member Jen "The Hen" Hendrickson turned us onto this band. With their smooth sounds and late sixties throwback to Motown your ears will thank you for the change of pace!
